These are some of the pictures from Yellowstone and the drive in. Shooting the animals in Yellowstone almost feels like photographing animals in a zoo, very staged. Although I know they freely roam in the park, there isn't much one on one experience with the moment, 20 other people are stopped looking at the same thing! We spent a day and a half in the park, most of the time looking for a bull moose because neither of us have ever seen one in person. In all of the parks we were through, it was just a scratching of the surface of what was there. You really can't drive through an area that size and say you have "seen" it. Lassen was the last one we were in. It was a spontaneous decision, we have been there at least a dozen times and will continue to go as often as we can find the time. It was just a few moments to kiss her face and honor what we find sacred. I wish I could post a picture of the stars we saw crossing the Nevada desert in the middle of the night. I didn't even try to shoot them but I wish I could!

The beauty does really take your breath away. Something about a gorgoreous mountain view. I love all these shots! Lucky you!
Sandy,
This was the best vacation we have taken so far (well, it certainly runs a very close second to Maui). The only down side was that we didn't get to spend any real slow contemplative time in any one place.
Maui would be pretty wonderful too. It's too bad the Hawaii is soooo expensive to travel too. Is there any places you would to back and stay longer?
Sandy,
I didn't feel like we had enough time in the Rockies, there was so much to explore and shoot! The one small hike we did take was like walking in the mall, but I know if you get off the main trails it really is wild country still. I love rocky crags as a back drop and that is what the Rockies are made up of! I will post more pictures. Estes Park (in the Rockies) was a clean interesting looking tourist town, would have liked to have more time to explore that, too.
Yellowstone is breathtaking but it felt much more public (again, we only drove through, would have loved to take some side trail hikes there too.
Like I said before, we both fell in love with the Wind River area and the red cliffs there. We have agreed, if we were ever able to buy a vacation home it would be around Dubois. The sky and land is so open and colorful!
There was just so many places that I would have like to shoot and explore! All the way out I kept saying "We can stop on the way back through and shoot.", then we ended up coming home a whole different way!
Maui was amazing! We stayed at an older condo about 40 steps from the water. We went in Jan., if you ever get the chance to go, that would be the month I would suggest. The whales were all in the waters at that time, so we could sit on the Lani and watch them through the binocs. It did rain but wasn't cold, the water was warm enough that we went snorkling comfortably. That is definately on the map for a return trip! If you are interested I will give you the name of the condo we stayed in, it was cheaper than the big hotels and much more personal.
I am a hard person to ask the question about going back and staying longer. I love to dig in and really get to know the back country of a place and that takes time, so I think everywhere I go, I feel like I would like to go back and spend more time. I have only been in the U.S.! I haven't even traveled abroad!
I always thought it would be great to be able to travel to different places and live there for about 6 months to a year. I think it would take that long to really get the feel of a place. I would love to do this in the south of France and Scotland. Oh to be rich.....
